Since October of 2003 the Call of Duty franchise has been an absolute success, and the COD (Call of Duty) games have been really good. First let’s talk about how this franchise became a success. When Medal of Honor first came out in October 1999, it was considered a good shooter back then. So before the COD series even started, Medal of Honor was already a target for people to overcome.
Eventually Activision (the first maker of COD) was able to overcome Electronic Arts (A.K.A. EA, the first makers of Medal of Honor). Since the release of the first COD game, COD has been more popular than Medal of Honor. That is how this franchise became a total success.
Sales for the COD franchise has been better and better each game. Modern Warfare 2 made over 1 billion dollars and so did Black Ops. How were they so successful? Good question and there is a simple answer right there.
Black Ops sold many copies despite having haters of the series. Doesn’t matter if there are diehard fans or not, Black Ops were still a big hit in the sales department. Treyarch can thank all the haters for purchasing Black Ops and of course, they can also appreciate the diehard COD fans for buying the game. Even though the PC sales weren’t that great, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions had a bunch of copies sold. The Wii version had quite a bit of sales though it was a bit of a downfall than what people expected. Overall the sales were still incredible.
